Greetings and welcome to the webpage of Brokenshire Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine Department.
The Department of Internal Medicine is a major part of the Brokenshire Health Care Referral System. It provides utmost care for adult and elderly patients. It sees to it that such care and services is affordable, effective, and efficient. It provides subspecialty care in the field of Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Infectious, Endocrinology, Hematology, and Allergology.
The department is fully equipped with a state of the art intensive care unit with a room that has access to a reverse osmosis line so that hemodialysis can be done promptly and with ease. The department has also a heart station for its’ cardiac patients. It also has a gastro room for endoscopy services. It also has a hemodialysis unit to cater both in-patient and out-patient renal patients. All of these units are manned by well-trained and competent physicians certified in their field of specialization.
The in-patient service of the department is located in the east wing of the hospital composed of two main wards. It contains rooms of your choice to suit your accommodation.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Internal Medicine aims to provide holistic care to our patients by addressing their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
PHILOSOPHY
It is our belief that all our medical professionals must be competent, experienced, ethical and compassionate in providing health care to all our patients, projecting professionalism and evidence – based practices, research, and training in the field of Internal Medicine.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Department of Internal Medicine maintains a three-year Residency Training Program accredited by the Philippine College of Physicians. Medical conferences, Consultant's lecture, research work – ups, major conventions and post graduate courses are regularly held as an avenue for continuing medical education and exchange of expertise and skills of the medical staff. The medical residents are also required to submit retrospective researches as a requirement for the training.
PURPOSE
To provide a comprehensive, effective, and efficient professional care in the field of Internal Medicine to all patients regardless of race, color, gender, socio-economic status, political and religious affiliations. It would render services basing from the standard practice of internal medicine as prescribed by the Philippine College of Physicians.
GOALS
- To provide a complete in-patient as well as out-patient services for its clients.
- To maintain and enforce the basic standards set by the department under its Quality Assurance Program.
- To continue updating its staff to new methodologies, researches, discoveries, and treatments through internet, journals, conferences, and textbooks.
- To optimize and improve the training of its resident physicians as well as its interns and clerks.
- To train and support the nursing and ancillary staff in improving care to patients.
- To support and encourage medical researches to improve medical practice in the hospital.
- To see to it that patient rights are well respected and that doctor-patient relationship should be practiced in strict confidentiality.
- To open up new units to improve more the services of the department in the field of Neurology and Rehabilitation by putting up a Stroke Unit and Rehab unit.

Brokenshire Renal Dialysis Center (BRDC). Using state-of-the-art hemodialysis machines, the Renal Dialysis Center is a special program of BIHMI which caters to patients with kidney problems. The facility offers very affordable hemodialysis procedure for PHIC members, serving both in-patient and out-patient end stage renal clients. Prioritizing their comfort and safety, the facility is designed to accommodate immuno-compromised patients. It has a room for continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and a comfortable waiting lounge for watchers.
Heart Station. The Heart Station provides ECG, 2D echo by color Doppler for imaging and treadmill stress test where our competent and experienced residents on hand to monitor and assure patient’s safety through out the procedure.
Gastroenterology. The gastroenterology room provides in-patient and out-patient upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, and proctosigmoidoscopy.
Executive Health Services. BIHMI offers affordable package plans for Comprehensive Executive Check – Up. Patients are given the best accommodations and are assisted and accompanied by trained and competent staff seeing to their utmost comfort.

ICU Complex. The ICU is equipped with modern gadgets for continuous monitoring of patients. Cardiac monitors and pulse oximeters connected to a central monitor at the nurse's station, enable the nurses on duty to keep close watch of all patients. Hourly monitoring of patients’ vital signs, fluid intake and output, and neurologic status is maintained 24/7. Infection control is strictly implemented by maintaining hand washing protocol. The unit is also equipped with infusion pumps, and top of the line mechanical ventilators.

The department has recently embarked in a resident training program which is accredited with Philippine College of Physicians. It is on completion of its second year probationary status as prescribed by PCP for new applicants for training institutions. It has three regular first year residents and three second year residents. It is accepting three more new residents for training for 2007. |
