Women coming to Brokenshire Ho spital for their reproductive health needs are served by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. These services include in and out patient maternal care, birthing, comprehensive family planning, cancer screening, gynecologic conditions and surgeries. Our spacious and homely facilities are located in the hospital’s second floor. Our birthing complex has an expandable nine bed labor rooms, delivery and operating rooms, a Lamaze bed and room and fetal monitors. The peach wing on the same floor houses the brightly painted patients’ rooms, the nursery, the colposcopy/cryotherapy/LEEP cervical dysplasia unit, the 3D/4D Ultrasound unit, the library and conference room and the Brokenshire Woman Center. Beginning 2007, a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy unit and an infertility clinic is available.
The Brokenshire Woman Center (BWC) is the department’s program that handles packaged services for birthing and gynecologic procedures. It is responsible for the advocacy and integration of reproductive health into the department’s services and training programs. This pioneering work began in 2000 through a grant from the Ford Foundation. BWC connects and relates Brokenshire Hospital to the broad local, national and international network of reproductive health organizations and agencies.
Our training programs include the clerkship of fourth year medical students from the Davao Medical School Foundation, the post graduate internship program and the Residency training program which is accredited by the Philippine Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Currently, we have seven residents in training.
Our biggest strength is our young and dynamic consultant staff and faculty, majority of whom are fellows of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. Our competence, expertise and leadership enable us to hold key positions in the POGS- Southern Mindanao Chapter, the Davao Medical School Foundation, the Davao Medical Society and the Davao Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
