Welcome to the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. The Department is an integral part of the Brokenshire Health Care Referral System. It provides affordable, effective and essential service to its clients in the field of medical imaging. It lends itself as a major support group to all clinical departments in the diagnosis and management of diseases.
The department sits on the west wing ground floor level of the hospital. It disposes services in routine x-ray diagnostics, interventional radiology, general and OB-Gynecology sonography including Doppler studies and recently also in computed tomography.

Expanding to serve you better
With superior technology and excellent care, the Department of Diagnostic Imaging offers a varied range of services.
Section of General Diagnostic Radiography. The Section of General Diagnostics is equipped with 360 mA ceiling-mounted radiographic system used for routine general imaging, a 650 mA Fluoroscopy machine for fluoroscopic-guided procedures and interventional examinations and a 200 mA portable x-ray machine that can facilitate imaging requisites from remote areas of the hospital. The radiologic examinations are processed using an automatic film processor.
Manned by highly qualified radiologic technologists, the section is open to serve you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This section receives and performs routine diagnostic procedures and special contrast examination like upper gastrointestinal series, barium enema, colonogram, cystogram, intravenous pyelography, cholangiogram and the likes.
Special procedures requiring patient preparation like bowel cleansing and food restrictions are done prior to the exam, to ensure proper interpretation of the radiographic images. Patients, caregivers and assigned nursing staff are briefed regarding the specifics of the preparation protocols during their request for scheduling of such exams. Routine non-contrast exams may be done anytime and usually do not require such preparation.
Section of Ultrasonography. The Section of Ultrasonography is fully covered by an array of transducer implements used for the sonologic examination of the abdomen, chest, head, small parts, vascular structures and for guided procedures. A Digital Ultrasound Scanner with spectral and Doppler color flow capability is the mainstay imaging machine used in this section. Certified sonographers likewise assist the sonologists in this section. The unit is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays, 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN during Saturdays. STAT or emergency cases are attended to immediately anytime of the day or night. Some sonologic exams require patient preparation prior to the procedure.
Section of Computed Tomography. The latest addition to the department, which opened last September 4, 2006, the section of Computed Tomography, houses a state-of-the-art Spiral CT-Scan Machine capable of varied post processing algorithms like 3D multi-planar reconstructions, shaded surface display, volume rendering and virtual endoscopy. The machine is complemented by a separate workstation, a dry laser printer and power injector machine. The section performs various diagnostic and interventional examinations and is staffed by certified radiologists, CT radiologic technologists and detailed nurse. CT exams requiring contrast media usually need certain patient preparation requisites prior to the procedure, ensuring patient’s safety, and accurate interpretation of imaging results. The section is open to serve you 24 hours a day.

PROGRAM |
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging is on probationary status for its residency training program pending inspection by the Philippine College of Radiology. It envisions an engaging four-year radiology residency-training in various imaging modalities. Part of this program is an MRI and other sub-specialty rotations (PET, Nuclear Medicine, Radio-Oncology, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, Interventional Radiology) to accredited training facilities in the country. |
