To All Community Health Advocates, Health Professionals, Partners
The Community Health and Development Center is a flagship program of the Brokenshire Integrated Health Ministries, Inc. in partnership with communities working towards establishing self-reliant, community-owned and community –managed health programs that will effectively respond to the health needs of the people.
The center is also the development arm of BIHMII in providing accessible, affordable and sustainable health care services to rural communities in Mindanao strongly advocating promotive and preventive health care delivery system. |

EDUCATION AND TRAINING. The Education and Training (ET) component of the program focuses on training local teams on basic, advance, and special health skills such as first aid, minor surgery, pharmacology, and disaster preparedness and management. Among others, this component also aims on equipping volunteer health workers and holding parents’ classes. BCHDC works toward the institutionalization of these training courses, and ensuring that learning process is participatory. This component ensures that all trainings have positive impact on the community. |

Advance Health Skills Training. This is a modular training that reinforces the application of basic health skills, while at the same time expanding the breadth of knowledge, skills and attitude of the Community Health Worker in the delivery of accessible healthcare services to the community clients.

HEALTH INSURANCE. Otherwise known as Medicare para sa Masa, this is an assistance given to families of the partner barangays through coverage in the government’s health insurance program. Priority enrollment is given to active members of the health cooperative established by the Program. |

HEALTH SERVICES. This component provides mass clinics (done in each program area every six months), medical missions, facilitate setting up of equipped community clinics; facilitates the establishment of health referral networks among health professionals and health institutions, patient referral program, health indigency program (Medicare para sa Masa); and reproductive health with focus on cancer screening and family planning towards efficient Community Health Care Systems. |

Mass Clinics. The mass clinics are done every six months in each program area. In the new Program Areas, Brokenshire sponsors the medicines and personnel cost; the mass clinic is also a venue for Community Health Workers to apply what they learned in their training on basic and advance health skills. In the Consolidated Program Areas, the medicines and personnel cost is borne by the health cooperative.

Medical Mission. The Medical Mission is a response of Brokenshire to outbreaks of communicable diseases in the program areas or its expansion areas.

Equipping Community Clinics. The clinics established by the health cooperatives in the program areas are provided with basic laboratory and diagnostic equipment to facilitate delivery of healthcare services to the community clients.

Health Referral Networks. Partnership with credible health facilities or institutions nearest the program areas, where clients may be referred to by the Community Health Workers. This program is governed by a memorandum of agreement between the partner healthcare facility and Brokenshire.

| Patient Referral Program. This is a facilitative program of referring patients to partner health facilities by Community Health Workers nearest the Program Areas. This mechanism is governed by a Memorandum of Agreement between Brokenshire, the health cooperative, and the partner health facility. |

Reproductive Health Advocacy. An advocacy work that focuses on preventive and promotive reproductive health, particularly to women of child-bearing ages.

| NETWORKING |
Organizing. The Program component focuses on integration into communities that will lead to establishing and expanding health cooperatives, formation of ecumenical support groups (ESG), campaigning for 100% membership to health cooperatives, allowing the people to plan for their own development, and federating health cooperatives among beneficiary communities in order to establish a logical people’s empowerment. |

Research, Information, Documentation & Advocacy. This component focuses on community diagnosis, research on endemic diseases and indigenous health practices, network building, radio program, newsletter (Bansay Kaalam), and symposia on ecology, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, gender sensitivity with special emphasis on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) It is also the main sponsor of BIHMI’s Lugawan sa Kalusugan that tackles burning issues on health and health development. |

Researches. Scientific researches are conducted in the Program Areas to gather useful data for diagnostic and appropriate intervention purposes.

Network Building. This is a continuing effort to broaden linkages with other community health and development NGOs, people’s organizations, government line agencies, and other institutions.
Radio Program. Weekly radio broadcast on preventive health and health issues through DXDS Radyo Ukay, Digos City. This broadcast reaches the provinces of Davao del Sur, parts of North and South Cotabato.
Bansay Kaalam Magazine. A twice-a-year publication in Cebuano distributed to program beneficiaries, supporters, UCCP congregations, schools, and the general public. It contains articles on preventive and promotive health, livelihood tidbits, household tips, news, and general information. (Get one at our downloads center. click here.

Symposia. Symposia provide a forum for the intelligent discussion and interchange of ideas on matters that affect the residents of the community, such as ecology, IP rights, gender sensitivity, violence against women and children, and others.

Small Project Fund.
